The hybrid free to air and video on demand service YouView has announced a major software update which will bring about a range of improvements and bug fixes to the digital television service.
The new YouView software update has already been rolled out to Humax set top boxes that were launched last summer and will be rolled out to all other retail set top boxes over the next few weeks with YouView boxes from BT and TalkTalk rolled out shortly after that.
New functionality as part of the new software update includes Live TV which gives users the ability to search for programs which are on air and also available via catch up for the next 7 days. The results appear on a ‘On Now & Next’ tab, though if users select a live programme they can either tune into the channel straight away or can set a recording on a reminder.
The new software update also supports Dolby Surround Sound through the HDMI connection, as well as other fixes to the HDMI settings that are encountered during set up. Users can also now set their HDMI preference at 1080p, 1080i or 720p.
YouView users will be prompted to download the new software update but if the set top box is connected to the Internet the download of the new software update will happen automatically overnight to minimise disruption.
