Cable television provider Virgin Media has launched a brand new multiplatform service called Virgin TV Anywhere that will allow users to stream television online and on a range of mobile devices.
The new app from Virgin Media allows users to watch up to 45 digital television channels
The new service is free to Virgin Media cable TV customers for free and can be accessed via web browser, a dedicated website or apps which are available on a range of smartphone and tablet devices.
Virgin TV anywhere will allow customers to view up to 45 digital television channels which are available on the Virgin Media digital television service and the number of channels available will depend upon the TV package that the subscriber has subscribed to.
The channels that are available include the likes of Sky Movies and Sky Sports and others such as British Eurosport and the kids digital television channel Cartoon Network.
In addition to the linear digital television channels, there is also the ability to access up to 4,000 hours of on demand television which includes content from Sky 1, Sky Living, and Sky Movies alongside other catch up TV services such as BBC iPlayer, 4oD and Demand 5.
There is also the ability to interact socially with the app which gives users the chance to comment on specific TV shows which they are watching.
For Virgin Media TiVo set top box customers there is also an added bonus as the app can be used to manage their set top box remotely, set up recordings, and rate programs using the TiVo ‘thumbs up, thumbs down’ rating system.
The new app will be available initially on the iOS range of devices with the functionality expanded to Android in 2013.
