The TV and movies streaming service Now TV from satellite television provider Sky has launched on a range of media streaming boxes from Roku which is also owned by Sky.

TV and movies streaming service Now TV is to be launched on a range of Roku streaming boxes

The Roku 2 XS and Roku LT will both be able to access the Now TV service

Users of the Roku LT and Roku 2 XS boxes will be able to access content from the TV and movies streaming service Now TV over a Wi Fi Network.

Now TV gives users the ability to stream a wide range of films on either a pay as you go or subscription basis, and is expanding over the next few months to also give users the ability to watch television and sports programs.

Now TV is currently also available on a range of other digital television services including YouView boxes, but users who wish to subscribe through their Roku box will also be able to benefit by getting access to a free 30 day trial of the TV and movies streaming service.

The move to include the Now TV movies service onto Roku fits in line with Sky’s longer term strategy for the TV and movie streaming service as director of Now TV Simon Creasy recognised that “more and more” people are consuming their media through internet connected devices.

He said “Following today’s launch on Roku, our customers now have another way of streaming their favourite movies to their main TV screen, while continuing to enjoy access out and about via iPad and smartphones,”

About Jane Stott

I'm Jane, a content executive at Digital TV Selector. When i'm not arguing with Ben and the rest of the team about digital TV, I can be found perusing Westfield mainly and spending my wages on things that i'll ultimately one day return as they 'make my hips look too big'. Writing for Digital TV Selector is great fun, especially when you consider how much the industry has moved in a short space of time, we went from high definition to 3DTV almost in the blink of an eye, and are already discussing where we want to be next! Over the last few years, the way we interact with digital TV has also changed, in most part due to things like Facebook and Twitter, but also through new technology such as TiVo, PVR's, Freeview and even broadband. These are amazingly fun times for digital TV and it's great to be part of such a fast moving industry!
