British Eurosport to go HD

Sports digital television channel British Eurosport is set to be launched as a high definition digital televisionchannel later on this month.

British Eurosport will become a high definition digital television channel from July 25th

The new British Eurosport channel will replace the current international version.

The sports channel British Eurosport 1 will get a high definition simulcast on the Sky and Virgin Media digital television services, and go live on the 25th July.  Sky viewers will get an extra high definition digital television channel as a HD version of British Eurosport 2 will also launch.

An international version of Eurosport has been available in high definition for quite sometime, and has brought coverage of the Tour De France, French Open Tennis, and will also bring high definition coverage of this summer’s Olympic games to viewers.

The new British Eurosport 1 high definition channel will replace the international high definition digital television channel and also give more focus to transmitting UK based sports in high definition.  Events that are marked for show include Davis Cup tennis, MotoGP, US Open Tennis, and Champions League Twenty20.

British Eurosport’s managing director David Kerr said “We are very pleased to be making British rights available in HD for our viewers on the Sky and Virgin Media platforms,”

“Our passionate and knowledgeable viewers will be able to enjoy more of their favourite sports on British Eurosport in stunning HD than ever before.”

“There are some fantastic events coming up and covering them in HD will add more quality to the depth and specialist knowledge provided by our expert team of Eurosport analysts.”

Meanwhile product director at Sky, Luke Bradley-Jones said “Adding HD versions of both British Eurosport channels to HD channel line up further underlines Sky’s leadership in high definition TV, with more than 60 HD channels now available to Sky customers.”

“We’re also delighted to be continuing to build on our partnership with Eurosport, which later this month will see Sky customers get to experience the first ever Olympics in immersive 3D as Eurosport’s comprehensive 3D coverage of the Games is broadcast on Sky 3D.

About Ben Hargreaves

Hi, i'm Ben, i'm the head editor of content at Digital TV Selector and have worked within the telecommuications industry for nearly 8 years now. I've been particularly interested in the way digital television has evolved over the last decade or so, with the advent of video on demand, 3D and the interations that we make with social media whilst watching digital TV too. With so much competition, its interesting to see that content is becoming the king, and digital TV providers are continuing to bring in customers with a wide array of sports, movies and entertainment shows. When we are not talking (or writing about) digital TV at DTVS towers, I can be found wine tasting and cycling in my spare time!
