Glasses free 3D TV coming to London Pub

Australian chain pub the Walkabout has announced that it will be trialling a revolutionary 3D TV technology which will not require 3D Glasses when it broadcasts live coverage of the UEFA Champions League final in its pubs.

The Walkabout branch trialling the technology will be in Henrietta Street in London, and will feature footballs biggest final between Manchester United and Barcelona FC on a special 65 inch screen provided by iPONT International, the company is known worldwide for its work on glasses free technology.

3DTV without needing 3DTV Glasses, 3DTV LCD Screen to show champions league final

The UEFA Champions League final will be shown on ITV and Sky Sports on the 28th May

The 3D LCD Screen wide angle screen will be installed at the Walkabout by iPONT, the company claims that the 3D image is viewable within a ‘viewing cone’ of 120 degrees which is said to be the same for many 3D televisions which are used at home.  The coverage of the UEFA Champions League final is to start at 6pm on the 28th May in the Covent Garden Walkabout.

Bar manager at Walkabout Covent Garden, Dal Jones said “With the UEFA Champions League Final returning to Wembley this year we’re going to be giving our customers the next best thing to being there but with the added bonus of having a beer in their hands.

“Not only will we be the first bar in the UK to screen ‘live’ 3D football without asking customers to wear 3D spectacles but we’ll be bringing a totally new immersive experience to Walkabout.”

Matthew Young of iPONT was also very excited of the prospect of the new 3D screen being installed at the Walkabout saying “While there’ll be plenty of other 3D TV screens at Walkabout I’m fairly certain people will be jostling for position in front of ours. “

“3D without the glasses is the only way to enjoy it and to watch the UEFA Champions League Final this way will be every armchair sports fan’s dream come true.”

The UEFA Champions League final will also be broadcast in high definition on Sky Sports, in 3D on Sky’s dedicated 3D channel and on terrestrial broadcaster ITV which is available on many free TV platforms such as Freeview and Freesat.

About Ben Hargreaves

Hi, i'm Ben, i'm the head editor of content at Digital TV Selector and have worked within the telecommuications industry for nearly 8 years now. I've been particularly interested in the way digital television has evolved over the last decade or so, with the advent of video on demand, 3D and the interations that we make with social media whilst watching digital TV too. With so much competition, its interesting to see that content is becoming the king, and digital TV providers are continuing to bring in customers with a wide array of sports, movies and entertainment shows. When we are not talking (or writing about) digital TV at DTVS towers, I can be found wine tasting and cycling in my spare time!
