ITV executive Paul Gilshan has been named as the brand new Marketing Director for the free to air satellite television service Freesat.
The appointment has been made as Freesat begins to focus on “driving the next phase” of its growth, and Gilshan will have complete ownership of Freesat’s marketing as he oversees retail sales, brand promotion, customer service, online marketing, and communications.
Freesat has recently seen huge growth from its launch in 2008, and Freesat platform sales topped 2 million and the satellite television provider has also re-launched its Free Time TV guide last year.
Gilshan joins from ITV where he is currently director of commercial marketing and research, he has also held roles at the Times newspaper and at Sky where he helped to relaunch Sky Movies. He takes over the role from Will Abbott who has taken a role at UK Insurer Hiscox.
Freesat Managing Director Emma Scott was pleased to name Gilshan as the new Marketing Director saying “He stood out during the recruitment process as an outstanding marketer, who takes a strategic approach; his experiences have been focused on attracting and retaining customers and he has an obvious passion for all things TV,”

Gilshan was equally excited about the new role saying “This is a really exciting time for Freesat, following the launch of Free Time last year, and I can’t wait to help drive the next stage of Freesat’s growth,”
Gilshan will start his role in Spring 2013 reporting to Emma Scott while Eleanor McBrien will lead the marketing operation in the interim.
