Freeview TV guide launches on Android and iPad

The Freeview HDtelevision listings app that was previously available on the iPhone has now been expanded to iPad and Android devices.

Freeview digital TV is a free to air digital TV service. Compare Sky to Freeview to find out how many digital TV channels are available in your area

The new app is available on Apples AppStore and Android Market

The app gives users access to all of the Freeview listings for the standard and high definition channels and allows instant access to the Freeview program guide.

The new app has been “completely overhauled” to give “a rich, full TV guide experience” and is available from both the Apple AppStore and Android Market.

New features on the listings app include a full TV grid view of all digital TV channels and programs in an “interactive timeline”, and will also suggest recommended viewing in its daily updated ‘top picks’ section.

The new app also interacts with the social network Twitter, which will give users the ability to see what programs are trending on the microblogging site.  Users will also be able to set their own preferences for TV viewing allowing the app to make recommendations based on the settings.

The app has already been a success on the iPhone with 150,000 downloads already, and Freeview new media manager Adrian Mack said “Freeview aims to offer the best subscription-free TV service possible and the upgrade of our Freeview HD TV Guide app underlines this.

“We want as many of our viewers to be able to benefit from the new features, with the Android and tablet market opening doors to an even wider audience – as well as offering new features such as the personalised recommendations to new and existing users.”

About Ben Hargreaves

Hi, i'm Ben, i'm the head editor of content at Digital TV Selector and have worked within the telecommuications industry for nearly 8 years now. I've been particularly interested in the way digital television has evolved over the last decade or so, with the advent of video on demand, 3D and the interations that we make with social media whilst watching digital TV too. With so much competition, its interesting to see that content is becoming the king, and digital TV providers are continuing to bring in customers with a wide array of sports, movies and entertainment shows. When we are not talking (or writing about) digital TV at DTVS towers, I can be found wine tasting and cycling in my spare time!
