Channel 4 has announced that they are to launch a range of brand new features on their video on demand service4oD.
Channel 4 announced the new changes at the Channel 4 Upfront 2013 event, and revealed that their video on demand service 4oD is watched by one third of young people in the UK.
The new changes are set to go live from 2013, and the ‘watch live’ feature will allow users to watch content on 4oD on a range of devices including iOS style devices such as iPhone’s and iPads and other Android devices.
The catch up TV service will also become the first in the UK to allow viewers to watch their favourite Channel 4 content offline without the support of adverts meaning that users will be able to watch programs such as Hollyoaks offline on a range of devices beginning with iOS in early 2013 and eventually expanding to Android later in the year.
The ‘pause and play’ functionality will allow users to watch a program on the catch up TV service, pause it and then continue watching it on a different device from the same point that they previously paused their viewing.
Channel 4’s commercial and business development director Sarah Rose said “We’re very excited to be the first commercial public service broadcaster in the UK to offer mobile offline viewing, enabling our viewers to catch up with Channel 4 wherever they may be,”
“And the introduction of ‘Watch Live’ on the move and cross platform ‘Pause and Play’ is great news for our young-skewing audience who are increasingly watching our content on multiple mobile devices.”
